which blur do you like?

sadly, my husband doesn’t seem to be the biggest fan of my blur photos. he likes some of them, but others make him feel like his vision is going bad and he just can’t quite see the photo. i, on the other hand, love, love, love all the blur photos i’ve been taking. (i just can’t ask his opinion on these so much, because he doesn’t see it the same way as i do :)

after a recent conversation, i thought i’d ask your opinion… which blur photo do you like best? they were all taken in union square the other night right as the sun was going down.

They’re all nice, but I definitely prefer the firs. It gives me just enough information to make the scene somewhat recognizable yet totally magical.

I was missing Union Square so much last night while out in Northampton. We usually spend the last hour of our time in the city at Republic Noodles, looking out at Union Square, me crying into my Pad Thai and Mojito, seriously wondering what would happen if I simply didn’t get back on the train, didn’t come back to the hills.

I don’t know a thing about union square but I prefer the first photo. I like the blur a lot. Makes everything mystical but I like the crispness of the color “pops” in that one. Makes me want to visit!

i really love the first one. it’s awesome!

The first one for sure. I like that I can see what going on without really seeing it…hmmm, does that make sense? In fact I think this might be my favourite blur shot of yours ;-)

I prefer the first one. I agree with Ida.

I love the first one and agree with Ida - totally makes sense Ida! :-)
My partner doesn’t really understand my OOF shots either. Ive just come across your blog and I think I might have to give 100 out-of-focus shtos ago - if you don’t mind?

the top one is the one i prefer…I find that my husband doesnt always “get” what I do creatively whether it be art or photography but that is OK …he enjoys some things that I do not “get ” either.

i love them all, but i’ll have to say the first is my absolute favorite.

so funny you mention that about your husband, because mine also does not like my blurry shots. he does not “get” them. thus his reason for not sharing my vision and excitement for my ethereal blog.

i’ve been taking a lot of out-of-focus shots with a new technique that i “invented” recently.

i’ve been showing them to him with excitement, and he has nothing good to say about them. same for my photographer friend who is all about capturing “reality” in his photos. he sort of laughs at me for loving them so much. oh, well. i get it! my twin gets it. you get it! that’s enough for me. :)

They’re all wonderful. I - too - love the out-of-focus blurry images. My favorite - I think? - is the first of the three. It’s just blurry enough to be interesting…and not so blurry as to lose the image.

  • jessica says:

yep - the first is my fav too. fun!

Hi. I love the blur photos (listen to your intuition, not your husband on this one!), and I vote for the second photograph. This is actually how I see the world when I remove my glasses. One of my favorite things to do for a shift in personal perspective is to stand beneath some trees with sunlight shining through and stare at the world without glasses or lenses. The whole thing is suddenly little circles of light, and so many colors!

(Makes the idea that the world is illusion seem so much more likely — either that, or we’re living in the Matrix, and we’re all pixilated.)

I’m loving that you captured that simple beauty on film. Congratulations!
