out-of-focus #21
this next week is my turn to pick the theme at lens.us.together, and to no surprise, i chose the theme “out of focus“. this is the photo i shared to kick it off. the manhattan bridge, which never fails to inspire me, to take my breath away. all my favorite photos lately are the bridges in blur, just after sunset. this one was taken saturday night, and while i wished i’d gotten there just a bit earlier to catch a little more light, i can’t deny how much i love the way this photo turned out, the blurry figures taking in the city, the bridge lights sparkling, the blurred edges reminding me of the memory i created.

love it. love their simple beauty.

there may be nothing quite right about this photo, but i couldn’t pass this moment by without capturing from my hip. i love walking, holding my camera low, aiming (without peeking through the lens), and shooting. i never know what i’m going to get. sometimes it’s deleted immediately. sometimes i hold onto it, glance back at it, think about it. and even though this one isn’t perfect, i knew i loved it.

best shot monday… something that spoke to me…
i’m always looking for words in the world around me. they surround me, but the ones i love most are the ones that make me think, that serve as a reminder of someway to get more out of life.

the first female to add to my collection of strangers. was out yesterday with my camera for the first time in a while. it felt right. i was seeing photos again, overwhelmed by the beauty that surrounded me. what better place to be then in dumbo below the manhattan and brooklyn bridges, surrounded by the sculptures that are inspiring in the park for the summer.
i didn’t really think about how nervous i might be to take her photo. i simply asked, without really thinking at all, now that i reflect. she didn’t care, as she went on drawing the manhattan bridge in lipstick that had been found in the grass. (o and don’t you just love her hair… wish i could get it done to my hair… but i’m still hung up on how it would go with work…)
100 out-of-focus photos
One photo out-of-focus is a mistake, ten photos out-of-focus are an experimentation, one hundred photos out-of-focus are a style.

i begin my first photo project today. the photo came first, a blur on purpose or maybe not. but the result i loved. so i kept it. and now, adding it with the words above, i’m starting the photo project of collecting 100 out-of-focus photos. feel free to collect photos that are out-of-focus along with me.
