black and white at home

i was randomly inspired to take black and white photos late this afternoon, right as the sun was setting for the day. the lighting wasn’t perfect… but i like the way they came out, so i guess it didn’t matter. watch for my next set of black and whites… i continued to be inspired, long after the good lighting was gone…

photo meetup

you may remember the post i made of my final project, the portfolio collection, for the photo school i participated in last summer. the photo school, named souvenir photo school, was created by miss b and provided great inspiration! i had a great time being a part of her class during the end of the first term (missed the beginning of the class because at the time, i was not aware it even existed). a few weeks ago, i got an email from her saying she’d be in new york and wanted to meet up to take some photos! earlier tonight, we did get to meet up in central park and for a photo walk through the park. it was fun wondering around some of my favorite parts of the park shooting photos. i took her and her friend, s, to places i’ve gone so many times, but i loved how, despite me being there time and time again taking photos, they helped me see things i hadn’t noticed before. miss b also pointed out places to take photos and use as textures (something i haven’t done a lot of experimenting with, but am looking forward to collecting more potential textures).

as i explained how i tend to not take as many photos during the week (usually caused by the lack of light when i am finally off work), miss b mentioned a photographer who took photos on the subway. i haven’t seen these photos, but tonight, on the subway home, i was inspired to capture a few photos.

subwayride

i am especially excited now for the second session of souvenir photo school to begin. can’t wait to see what creative and inspiring assignments we get! i’m hoping to keep myself on top of the assignments from the beginning to end.

faux focus

wall-walking

i took this photo as a way to describe how i felt in that moment. living in new york city, i’m always always watching people, but usually trying not to be so obvious about it… especially when the only people on the street are you and one other guy (with his dog). this is how i do, i act like i’m watching something else, even though, something about that particular person has a magnetic pull on my vision! of course, he may have no idea that i’m watching him, pointing my camera his direction…

last of the summer flowers

purples

seasons are changing. flowers will be fading, as well as summer’s beautiful greens… they will soon turn into the colors of fall, the colors i’ll be excited to see, to photograph. how quickly the seasons come and go, and as they change from one to the next, i wonder if i will remember the beauty captured in seasons past… happy new season friends. here’s to fall photos and fall colors and cool fall weather…

lines in the light

spiderweb

i am in love with this photo.

the lines of the spider web, even if broken in places, glowing in the sunlight.

the bokeh of green and white and black in the background.

i hunted for the perfect spider web through the forest of trees in my park, the one placed with the sunlight shining from behind it.

i thought i wouldn’t find it, but i did. and i love what i’ve found.

out-of-focus #21

this next week is my turn to pick the theme at lens.us.together, and to no surprise, i chose the theme “out of focus“. this is the photo i shared to kick it off. the manhattan bridge, which never fails to inspire me, to take my breath away. all my favorite photos lately are the bridges in blur, just after sunset. this one was taken saturday night, and while i wished i’d gotten there just a bit earlier to catch a little more light, i can’t deny how much i love the way this photo turned out, the blurry figures taking in the city, the bridge lights sparkling, the blurred edges reminding me of the memory i created.

one of my recent posts was twilight bridge blur photos. a couple weekends ago, i was back at the bridges as the sun set behind the city. i think i’m in love with these types of photos.

portfolio collection

this summer, i somehow found an inspiring opportunity to join miss b’s “school” and complete a few of the weekly photo assignments. i started late and missed “turning in” a few of the assignments, but i did get my final project in on time :) i wanted to share it with you. i chose the portfolio - for me, i interpreted it as a collection of photos that tied together. i don’t know if i created a successful portfolio collection (the word “portfolio” scares me)… but i do love the collection i came up with. i took these a little while back and did share one of the photos already…
